The lyric is a reference to the 1932 V8-powered Ford automobile, which enthusiasts dubbed the “deuce coupe” (the “deuce” coming from the 2 in 1932, the first year the V8 was available). Springsteen was fond of classic hot rods in his youth, hence the line “revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night”. As the line is a famous example of a mondegreen because it is frequently misheard as “wrapped up like a douche”, Springsteen has joked about confusion over the lyrics, claiming that it was not until Manfred Mann rewrote the song to be about a feminine hygiene product that it became popular.

I second this recommendation, solid series and it does do a great job of being faithful to the setting instead of just using it as a veneer for some other type of story.

I was extremely disappointed that it wasn’t a Rizzo the Rat reference.

I have had four teeth replaced with the oral surgeon doing the screw and the dentist did the crowns. Yes it is expensive, but reasonably common, and partially covered by dental insurance.

But you do replace your brake pads before the wear out completely instead of just letting them grind your rotors, right?

Most dentist visits are like oil changes and vehicle checks to make sure things aren’t going to fail catastrophically.

Dentists make a lot more money off of major repairs and general maintenance than they do by replacing teeth entirely.

Oral surgeons on the other hand do make money off major repairs to damaged teeth or teeth replacements. I know people often call anyone who works on teeth a dentist, but technically they are different professions.

We have had massive improvements in batteries so that bodes well!

Noon is supposed to be at 12:00. Let’s say someone lives in a place where that is literally true. If they lived on the equator then sunrise would be at 6 am and set at 6 pm. If it is the equinox anywhere on the planet would be sire at 6 am and set at 6 pm.

If they are far enough north or south that the shortest day is 10 hours or less, then the sun will rise at 7 am and set at 5 pm. This includes most of the US and Europe. The sun setting at 5 pm during the winter is normal.

The primary issue, at least in the US is that the typical workday of 9 to 5 or 8 to 5 has 5 hours in the afternoon and only 3 or 4 hours in the morning. Being afternoon heavy means getting dark at 5 seems early, especially after the stupid DST shift making it seem like evenings should have even more sunlight. We basically changed society based on banking hours and are angry that time works the way it does and instead of just shifting working hours to what we want we pretend that the sun is the highest in the sky at 1:00 pm for part of the year for no logical reason.
