Half the Google one should be represented by a headstone.
It’s an older meme. Google was still a good company back then.
They’ve been killing good products for well over a decade
The meme is around for at least 14 years. Google was perceived as good company back then. Even XKCD had comic about Google not knowing how to be evil.
Oof, that alt-text really hurts to read though.
spoiler
It’ll be hilarious the first few times this happens.
Yes, but I think the headstone comment is relating to all the products killed by Google, often referred to as the Google Graveyard, a term that’s been around since at least 2013. Nothing to do with Google being evil or not.
Yeah, except Oracle products already phone home to alert them to start nagging you about a voluntary audit. I once downloaded an old version of JRE to try to configure an old switch and Oracle hasn’t stopped hassling me about it since.
Well, if you don’t install any of them yourself, you have no reason to let Oracle in.
I think it’s more difficult when certain very old web interfaces using Java used to be so strict on the version. There would be warnings like “You need Java 1.4 build 232, not Java 1.5” etc. I don’t think the openjdk builds go back far enough for those (looks like Java 8 from a quick glance).
hex editor time
Definitely passing this one along to a few DBAs.
